Mental Health Awareness Retreat Honors Bremen Republic

Honoring Bremen Republic

Bremen Republic is an activist (a voice) for mental health. He speaks to schools and holds conferences in regards to mental health in RL. He also blogs about mental health and shares it in both worlds, SL and RL.

Mental Health Awareness Retreat would love to honor Bremen Republic because it takes amazing! courage to stand up for what you believe in and speak up.

We need more active voices like Bremen's in the world. As a mental health consumer, I personally know the struggles that still exists with stigma and ignorance as well as laws and policies. When our voices remain sealed in silence, nothing! will change.

Here is Bremen's Blog http://straybrainchemicals.blogspot.com/. His articles are very well written with facts and at times very heartfelt. Written from a person with personal experience in depression perspective, readers with a mental health illness might find themselves feeling less alone when reading his blog. I have to personally say that I enjoy reading his articles.

In honoring Bremen, I would love to share some of his favorite quotes:

“Depression is not a disease of the mind it is a disease of the brain”.  Dr. John M. Ortiz , The Tao of Music

“That's the thing about depression: A human being can survive almost anything, as long as she sees the end in sight. But depression is so insidious, and it compounds daily, that it's impossible to ever see the end. The fog is like a cage without a key.”
Elizabeth Wurtzel, Prozac Nation

"Pain is resilient to logic. Acting as though depression is something that you can use logic to overcome can be perceived as a way of blaming the person suffering from it."
Kellie Powell

We would also like to share with you Bremen's top choice sites that help educate people on suicide and prevention:

Thank You Bremen for being a voice for mental health! For raising awareness and educating people on the stigma that still surrounds mental health. You DO make a difference in the world =]
